Have you recently lost someone or are you feeling a consistent sense of loss?

Grief can have many causes. It is often the result of a loss—such as a person, relationship, job, or ability to do something you once could. Grief can also come from losses that are not recognized by others, known as disenfranchised grief. This can include losses that are misunderstood or not validated by society, that are still meaningful and impactful to you.

Whether you’re grieving the loss of a loved one, experiencing life transitions, or navigating physical or cognitive changes, we offer a compassionate space to process your feelings.

How can therapy for grief help you?

Placing your grief in the context of a therapeutic relationship can bring relief in itself. This might include speaking your truth; feelings and thoughts you fear that other family members or friends might disagree with. Therapy provides a confidential and private therapeutic space that can help relieve what you have had to hold in.

If you are grieving and struggling to put words to your experience, we are skilled at helping you put words or creative processes into motion so you can begin to create your own narrative of the grief and loss you feel. Therapy can help you identify and narrate your experience.

What is grief?

Grief is an experience most commonly associated with the loss of a significant person, animal, or part of our lives—such as a job, or aspects of physical health. Grief can also be a response to a cultural or news event. Sadness, emotional pain, confusion, and feelings of emptiness are commonly associated with grief. When grief is not acknowledged, people may notice feelings and emotions that can surprise them or are hard to understand. Unprocessed or suppressed grief may also become misplaced into other relationships or locations.

Utilizing therapy as a place to explore and process grief can help integrate the experience of loss in a way that honors your experience.
